Very soft, beautiful color, good size , somewhat uneven distributionUPDATED REVIEW: I must admit, after my initial disappointment (see previous review below)... I was thinking I was pretty stupid for not researching other options for weighted blankets. But then Harkla followed up on my review. They were concerned, and appreciated my suggestions for improvement. But then, I received another email where they were offering to send me their new and improved blanket, which I gladly excepted. I have slept with it the past couple nights, so that I can give an updated review.First off....no smell!! I am so glad Harkla updated to glass beads for their weighted fill. This makes a HUGE difference, not just for the smell, but it helps keep the blanket a lot less bulky. In addition, the fact that the beads are freely flowing with the cotton fill in each square, again...major improvement. No more hard pockets! The minky soft cover is exactly the same as the first one...love the feel and the hidden zipper. If you are having issues tying the inner blanket to the cover, turn the cover inside out and start by tying the end opposite the zipper. There’s only 2 minor suggestions I have for improving Harkla’s blankets in the future. One is the size/weight ratio. Maybe I’m wrong because I don’t know if/how it changes the therapeutic properties, but I like the idea of being able to have a bigger blanket that isn’t any heavier. My initial purchase was based on size, but it was very heavy. I asked that my replacement was 15 lbs (instead of 25) for that reason, but the 15 lb one is smaller so it doesn’t always cover me in my queen size bed. I realize that this could be a logistics problem with selling on amazon, but maybe an option/link for custom sizes/weights?More importantly, I think another improvement could be made by making the stuffed squares smaller. Just take each current square and divide them into 4 smaller squares. I think it would help greatly with weight distribution and ease of use when picking up and moving the blanket around. With all that said, I’m very grateful that Harkla stepped up and made things right. I hope that they continue to listen to their customers and make improvements based on feedback. There are so few companies these days that actually take the time to so do. Thanks Harkla!!::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Original review: The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because the minky cover is awesome. Sadly, that’s about it. First is the smell. If you are sensitive to smells, don’t bother. Someone said in the Q&A’s that there was a bad batch of poly pellets. Of course I would be that lucky. But that’s not the biggest issue...weight distribution. Each square of the inner layer has the pellets incased in a plastic baggie. I’m not sure if this is intentional, but since I got the 25 lb blanket based on my weight, it’s incredibly noticeable that when I lay under it, it is as if a bunch of sandbags are laying on me in random places. It would be a lot more comfortable if the pellets were just enclosed loosely in each fabric square. For the amount of money I was willing to spend, I want even weight distribution. After working a long day at the hospital, I had been looking forward to curling up and falling asleep. Instead I tossed fitfully as my body ached in random spots while other places had no weight on it. Needless to say, I’m returning it and doing a lot more research on other brands before I decide to spend $$$.Our child has had a few weighted blankets and this is the best yet.Light weighted blanket perfect for a young child. I bought it for my son who's 5. It helped him sleep through the night.I purchased a Harkala blanket back in October 2017, and I loved it. But after about six months the beads started to go to the edges, And the weight in the middle was no longer there. I also noticed when I first got the blanket that the weight felt like it was in pucks and not distributed evenly. Because this was my first weighted blanket I thought that was just how they all were.About a month ago I contacted the company about The beads of the blanket going to the edges, and their customer support is amazing. They contacted me back, and within a week by only providing my original Amazon order number, I had a blanket in the mail and received later that week. I had no issue, and I didn’t even have to send my old one back, even though I’m throwing it away anyways. I have seen many comments with the same issues, and I urge any of you were having the same issue to contact them. It’s very likely you got one of the older models and as I have shown in the pictures there is a huge difference between the older models in the newer models, (The white one is the older one and the gray one is the newer one). My older model had glass beads from my understanding, but they felt more like a little pebbles that congregated in a hockey puck like size inside the larger blanket pockets. The new were one however feels more like very fine sand, and they definitely do not bunch up. I can definitely tell the weight is distributed much better. Now I’ve only had it for about a week, but it definitely seems like the stitching is better and I hope that it will stay this way. Also of note, I currently have one of the cotton covers because I live in Arizona and it is very hot. I love my blue cotton cover and never have had any issues with it other than it being slightly big. I love the soft covers for the winter though, they can just get a little hot in the Arizona summer. We are having significant problems with getting our autistic son to sleep on an evening so turned to ordering a weighted blanket to see if that would help. After much searching on Amazon I decided to go for this one. Unfortunately I wasn't been able to use it as it arrived with a rip in the blanket. It's not a huge rip, only about one inch long, but it was large enough to have what I assume are very small glass beads coming from it so I've had to return it immediately. Obviously with it being torn on arrival I am very reluctant to purchase another Is the blanket any good? I honestly cannot say, all I can report on is what was sent to me and unfortunately what was not fit for purpose which is hugely disappointing, not least as it means no more sleep for the foreseeable future. This is a lovely, soft, vibrant weighted blanket. I bought it for my son who has autism, he struggles to sleep and like compression. I thought I’d give this a go. I’ll try anything right now. I bought the heaviest one because his twin brother uses it too. So far so good. I calm and the first night he used it he was asleep after 1 hour. It’s very hot at the moment so he’s not using it as much as he would like. The only downside is trying to clean it. So yes it all is machine washable but my son is double incontinent and wiggley so he will wet the bed. I do think it would help in the inner actual weighted blanket was waterproof. Also the picture makes it look bigger than it is.I have gone from being awake either for most of the night or waking up loads of times to only being awake once during the night. I did go for a slightly heavier one than was recommended but it’s been fine for me, I just can’t get out of bed very quickly as have trouble moving the blanket.Perfect blanket! Weight not toooooo heavy but enough to allow my child to feel more safe and less anxiousBought for grandaughter as she wakens through out the night. Is working very well.
